BRIEF ENCOUNTER
The Nilgai is an amazing species of antelope. Native to India these animals are far from home in the South Texas area. It is said that back in the mid 1920's the King Ranch was gifted some Nilgai and that is how they were introduced to them for the first time. They loved the animal so much that they wanted to have some more of their own. So the King Ranch bought some and released them into the ranch in the 1930's thinking that they would be a good source of food. From there they flourished and multipied rapidly and till this day you can see them all over the surrounding areas. There were originally 7 released and now there are over 30,000. They are an amazing animal that people come from all around the world to see and hunt. South Texas is one of the only places in the world to hunt free range Nilgai. So as a result from that David Hibler has mounted 1,000's of these beautiful animals for customers throughout the years and has hunted them frequently. This all played into his decision to sculpt the elusive animal. The Nilgai's ability to evade and escape rapidly was the inspiration for this pieces title. Anyone who has ever hunted these creatures understands that the Nilgai Bull has earned the reputation of being one of the most wary and challenging animals to hunt in South Texas! This piece is also available in the King Ranch Saddleshop for purchase but don't wait this gorgeous piece is selling out fast!!!
